Sorry it took me a little while to get back to you. I thought I'd read that it should be an hour, but what I read doesn't give a specific amount of time. (Do note that this guide, while I think it is excellent, was written by an engineer, not a dietician.)
An aside, which I find interesting: In other cultures, they eat breakfast, dinner, and supper, rather than the breakfast-lunch-dinner cycle that we're accustomed to in the US. (In other words, the big meal is in the middle of the day, not at the end.) There's also the saying, "Breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, dinner like a pauper."
I know that darxus doesn't agree, but I think there's something to this (even though I often snack right before bed).
I'm glad I relayed your question to cathijosephine, her response was enlightening: "Most people can't eat so many Hershey's kisses at once."
The experience I posted about did actually turn out to be sufficiently motivational to start diversifying my diet.
I now have canned chicken and instant brown rich, which I am planning to base my diet around. I do not yet have the motivation for frozen vegetables. Hmm, maybe canned.

I know that
I mean... carrots? Celery? Bananas or apples or oranges? Spaghetti squash? Rice, beans, tofu, fish, cluck, gobble, (but not "moo", I imagine) etc.
I'd think that eating food that wasn't made only from sawdust and electricity would be pretty important.
Well, my doctor said I significantly improved my diet.
Seriously - I know you have dietary concerns, but this is not a good solution.
