I was thinking it would be great to have an app where I could paste the line I'm trying to match, and then have it highlight the text as I type in a matching (perl) regex. And now I do. And it's great.

  Active States Komodo (for perl, python, tcl, iirc, ?, etc, ...) has a regexp thingy, but that $$$; i *think* their free editor has one too. Multi-platform as well.
  
  Actually, at work here, we're probably going to have a regexp "lunch series", and will be hosted by myself and someone else here, for various people that don't grok them. I think in the basic set very well, but don't necessarily use or like zero lookahead operators for intance, so, more learning good :)
