Category Make Model Note Date
Beginner Kawasaki EX500 / Ninja 500 More commonly available, popular for racing at NHIS, Loudon, NH. 2006-12-15
Beginner Suzuki GS500 Fewer plastic bits to break when you crash. 2006-12-15
General Triumph Sprint ST (2005+) If I could only have one bike this would be it. 2006-12-15
Sport Touring Honda CBR1100XX Super Blackbird "silly gobs of power" "hand of god fast"
The criteria which lead me to this bike was camping with my girlfriend in another state. Way too heavy for a race track.

Commuting Suzuki SV650 Popular for racing. More reasonable weight and less ridiculous power make it more practical for regular commuting. Commonly ranked most fun per dollar. 2006-12-15

Note:
Many motorcycles require you to balance ridiculous amounts of power on two wheels. For beginners 650ccs is pushing the recommendable engine size, and more than two cylinders results in more sudden throttle response which is good for tossing you.

My Background:
Motorcycling has been my primary form of transportation since I purchased my first bike in September 2004.
